I’d use it to help teach people more about bacteria. I want to attend the BAS science communication conference to learn more about how to communicate science and then want to attend the British Science festival with a stand about bugs

I think I’d call it “The little things in life” – what do you think?

Some of the money would definitely go towards the LHCsound project I am working on to try and make music out of particle collisions http://www.lhcsound.com.

If I were to win the money I would definitely spend some of it on my daughter because she deserves a treat.

I noticed that some of the other scientists have said they will spend the money on a tour of their lab, so now I feel a bit bad saying that I will take Jessie to Alton Towers! Ho hum..

I have a load of equipment that I take to schools, like rockets and robots and meteorites, so I’d use the money to buy more of that. I’m a big fan of using equipment that most schools can’t get hold of, so I like doing workshops where you get to build a rocket that will launch to 200m, and take pictures as it floats back down on a parachute – so I’d buy more stuff like that. Rockets are great fun, but I keep losing them (smashed someone’s greenhouse with one a few weeks ago…oops), so I always want more of them.

But I think I would be a bit selfish and go out for a nice curry with some of the money, if there was any left!

I’m thinking of working out a way that you guys could talk to US students and scientists as well. It might be fun for you to hear how school is in another country and how science is taught or thought about by other kids.

I would donate the money to an organisation called CAT (Centre for Alternative Technology). This is an eco-centre in Wales that is open to the public and demonstrates how new technologies can be used in our every day life to minimise our impact on the environment. This includes things like using less water and energy and making cleaner energy. They also run school programmes to help kids learn about science and technology. I think they do great work and deserve support!
