I don’t think so. I’m not aware of any evidence that the world will ‘end’ through terrestrial or indeed extra-terrestrial means in 2012.

Well, some people will but not due to a cataclysmic end of the world. From what I understand, Mayan predictions that that date is based on have been misinterpreted. It does make for a good story for fictional movies and the like. Something similar happened in the early 90’s regarding predictions by Nostradamus and the world didn’t end that time either.
Our earth, while still pretty young is from what I understand already too cold to explode or anything like that.

I hope not, I was hoping to watch my kids graduate from uni sometime after that! No, this whole 2012 thing is based on the end of the Mayan calendar system, there is scientific reason why things will end in 2012.
