I’m not religious at all, and I’m perfectly happy with the idea that the Universe is just the result of an inevitable sequence of events that happened as a result of physics – but I know a few cosmologists (who study the Universe and where it came from) who are religious, so I don’t think being a scientist stops you from being religious. But it does give you a good sense of the “laws of nature”, and our current theories of quantum physics and cosmology in particular suggest that there is absolutely no need for any sort of supreme being(s) – the Universe was always bound to come into existence, that’s just an inevitable consequence of what the Universe is…

Proving the existence or non-existence of God(s) is really an impossible task – you will never convince everyone, one way or the other, so if some people are happy to believe in religion, as long as they don’t bother me/others, I’m happy to let them get on with it if it keeps them happy. What I really don’t like is pseudo-science, like astrology and homeopathy…that can mess people up, and take advantage of vulnerable people, and that’s not nice.
