reproduction as in sexual reproduction probably evolved in animals as it has a big selective advantage as it allows you to shuffle genes around so adapt the the environment quickly

So animals first started doing it for that reason

Living things can reproduce in one of two ways: sexually (like us) or asexually (like nemetode worms). The second kind means that all members of the species are female and they just produce clones of themselves.

The earliest organisms that reproduced sexually would have probably done it by accident. I really don’t know. But Its interesting, I’m going ton look it up.

Well sexual reproduction enables genetic traits to be combined and mixed. The next generation is therefore a mix of its parents. It means that genetic diversity is high, helping species to live and evolve and be adapted to many environments. Most animals and plants use sexual reproduction. Some species are asexual which means there is only one parent. They can reproduce quickly but do not have a high diversity and cannot adapt to many environments.

Hmm, good question….probably like most things in science – by accident or by experimenting!
