      You’re testing my chemistry memory! Essentially acids carry around an extra electron or negative charge and bases or alkalis carry an extra proton, or positive charge. When they meet (like adding vinegar to baking soda) the charges want badly to equalize and a lot of energy is released as the acid’s extra electron is transferred to the base’s extra proton, creating two uncharged molecules.
