Well as I’m old(!), I’ve had quite a few jobs since I got my PhD back in 1993 – but I’ve always been involved in astronomy and space science, so I guess you could say that I’ve been an astronomer for about 20 years (if you include my time as a PhD student). I’ve been running the Faulkes Telescope Project since 2000, so just over 10 years now, but I moved from Cardiff University to Univ. of Glamorgan almost 2 years ago, so I’m now setting up a new degree and a new group specialising in astronomy education.
In all that time, I’ve never had a contract for longer than 2 or 3 years though, and a lot of the time I have had 2 or even 3 jobs at the same time.
