Don’t think it was real. But we don’t know for sure.

I don’t think it was a real place. It was first reference by Plato over 2000 years ago. According to legend it sank into the sea one night.

There are lots of theories about Atlantis – I used to read lots of books about this sort of stuff when I was younger. The simplest solutions are that either the story was just that, a story, or else that the sizes were exagerated, maybe by ten times, to make it seem more impressive (or maybe by accident). There is no way an island of the size of Atlantis could have existed in the Mediteranean, or the regions of the Atlantic that seem likely candidates for it, and for us not to have found it.

I think Atlantis was a combination of a real place, like the Greek island of Santorini, which was destroyed by a huge volcanic eruption, but exagerated for the purposes of a story – so yes, I think it was real in a sense, but that it was just another Greel civilisation that was used as a story in later times, after it was destroyed.

There is still a lot of debate as to if it ever existed! We still don’t really know
