What I love about my job is that I get a chance to keep up to date with exciting and important scientific developments and then tell people about them. We can all often get wrapped up in our own lives and work, forgetting that there is a big wide world out there with stuff happening. I pay attention to that stuff and communicate it to people who are too busy doing day to day work to do it for themselves.
Do you think science is fascinating and if so do you have a favourite part of science?
hey, my name is cara,
science is my favourite subject and i enjoy it alot,
but im a bit worried on something,
could you help me?
i would like to know what alcohol does to your body ?xxx
I don’t have a crystal ball, although in my office there are a few geologists, and they have lots of crystals on their shelves…
I prefer to look into a telescope rather than a crystal ball – one of the amazing things about astronomy is that everything you see is “in the past”, as the light we see has taken a long time to get to us. Light from stars in our galaxy can take tens of thousands of years to reach Earth, and light from other galaxies is typically tens or hundreds of millions of years old! Even when you see the Sun, that light has taken about 8.3 minutes to travel from the surface of the star to your eyes…
