When my daughter was a baby and I first started studying I used to work in a creche. I also worked as a learning support assistant with autistic children in a primary school. All the time I was a student (8 years) I have worked on and off as a barmaid to earn some extra cash.
I’ve had a lot of jobs. I was a researcher studying HIV for my post doc. I’ve also worked in a shoe store, mowed lawns and managed the propagation of fruit flies for a lab class.
I’ve been a receptionist, waitress, fruit packer, cleaner, sandwich maker, bar woman. These jobs were mostly part time jobs I had when I was a teenager or when I was travelling around Australia. Quite a mix!
a barman in a rugby club (summer job)
a bouncer in a nightclub (student job)
a steelworker (summer job in South Wales)
a geophysicist (job after graduation, with Shell)
a gym instructor (student job)
a martial arts instructor (evening “job” now)
…and a scientist (day job now)
