Sometimes I feel horrified that so many of us are prepared to risk our lives because we put such great importance on the way we look.
Other times I think that if people are so unhappy then why not do something about it?
I asked some female friends of mine this question recently on facebook. I said “Answer honestly, would you rather have perfect boobs or a perfect grasp of the English language (meaning you would be a great writer. poet and speaker)?”
Almost all of them said they would rather have perfect boobs! And these were smart, interesting, adult women.
I feel the same way. I don’t think I would want plastic surgery unless it was medically necessary, but everyone is different and has the right to choose for themselves.
I wouldn’t ever bother myself, but I guess if you had a medical condition, or something caused by an accident, that could be fixed or made better by plastic surgery, then it would be good.
A friend of mine from school became a plastic surgeon, but he worked in Africa, correcting birth defects in children (like cleft palettes) – not doing strange things to celebrities…
So when it can really help people’s lives, I think it is a good thing. But not if it is just to make people “more attractive”…
thanks yeah i agree if i was terribly unhappy then maybe but i am very glad that i am happy!!!!! maybe if i had a desperate problem like a burn or something but i would never have lipo suction or anything to do with the weight because you can just keep fit by eaten well and execise thanks for your comments !!
You make very intelligent points, naomijeffs1, I completely agree.
It’s an important part of life that we can choose things for ourselves; as long as those choices are well-informed.
All surgery is dangerous and people should always be made aware of the risks. Some companies have advertisements that make it seem trivial and I really disagree with that.
If people want to do something for themselves, for their confidence – or as you say, it’s necessary because of accidents etc. – ok.
But I do think it’s sad that so many people are made to feel inadequate in themselves; that’s a problem with our society, with media and so on, and I’d like to see it addressed more.
