The evidence we have is that the universe is expanding. This means that once upon a time it was smaller than it is now. If you go far enough back in time, the universe was so small that you could hold it in your hand. Even when it was this small it contained all of the stuff it contains now, all the matter and energy that now makes up billions of stars and planets was just swarming around. If you go back even further in time you eventually get to a point where the universe was as big as a grain of sand, then an atom, then.. nothing? We don’t know! As for *who*, there weren’t any people around at the beginning of time.

Hmmm that’s a difficult question. From what I know there is strong evidence that ‘The Big Bang’ created the universe as we know it. However because of what happened it’s very difficult / impossible to measure what happened or was around before the big bang so I wonder if we will ever know.

      Does that answer your qu?

I haven’t the first idea, sorry! I usually think about smaller questions. What do you think?

The Universe doesn’t need to have been created by anyone/anything – according to some really complicated physics, called quantum physics, the Universe was almost bound to come into existence, just down to what we would call “chance”. Basically, according to quatum theory, the Universe pretty much had to come into existence, so it didn’t need any supreme being/God(s) etc. to help it out – it’s just one of those things that had to happen (given enough time – although even time is a very odd thing when you examine it carefully…!).

So I think the Universe came into existence becasue of quantum physics, nothing else.

The big bang. Its a concept that is hard to get your head around. Maybe that’s why I didn’t continue with physics after GCSEs!
