Me too! I cannot control my blushing either. Its a reaction to an emotion like shame or embarrassment. It can happen even when your emotions are subconscious. So even though you think you’re fine, blushing can happen. I try and focus on others to stop it happening which is successful sometimes. Either way, try not to worry about it!

It is because your body releases adreniline. That happens when you get anxious. It is useful because it makes the blood pump around your body faster, so that you can react faster to danger.

Nowadays we don’t have to run away from tigers very often, but our bodies are still programmed to help us out when a feeling of anxiety hits us. By releasing adreniline, th blood starts pumping quicker and we are able to run quickly. not mushc use when you are reading out in class, unfortunately!

I don’t know – it could be because you are concentrating all the blood is going to your head to keep your brain oxygenated so you appear red.

It could also be because reading out can be a bit stressful – so that would release adrenalin which is a stress hormone which causes blood vessels to dilate – keeping muscles oxygenated – which would have been useful in old times for escaping a danger! These days it possibly looks silly

If it makes you feel any better I go red when I lecture to undergraduates.

Just because it’s exciting or a little stressful. Your body produces adrenaline which can make you blush and your heart rate increase. Happens to all of us! The more you read aloud in class, the less it will happen.
